We’re writing to share BIG news with you: we are moving out of our beloved space in Manhattan at the end of March 2023.
Babies Project is not closing! We’re just giving up having a dedicated space.
First, our apologies for the late notice: we waited to be certain about the timing before making a public announcement. We long ago decided not to renew our lease, which ends in April, and now we’ve come to an agreement with our landlord to move out a month early.
As for so many, the pandemic has had a seismic effect on our operations: families have moved away from the city temporarily, partially, or permanently; we’re navigating our sense of safety about gathering in person; and thresholds have shifted around decisions like getting on the subway and taking babies out in the world. Change is happening all the time, of course, and part of how we grow.
In our first fundraising campaign for Babies Project in the spring of 2017, we emphasized the value of having our own space as an incubator where we could share and develop our ideas and practices about developmental movement for babies of all ages, especially babies from newborn to walking. (Read more about our story.)
There’s a developmental aspect — isn’t there always! — to leaving the nest and moving out into the world. In the 6 years since Babies Project’s start, our incubator space has served us well. We’ve met over 1000 families and their little ones in our bright, spacious studio, and we will surely miss and grieve it.
We’ve learned so much from meeting so many babies, exploring and discussing our ideas with so many parents and other caregivers, and seeing how development plays out in so many ways. We’re excited to see what we can do next with all we’ve learned.
