Babies – Guidelines for Caregivers

  • You are welcome to come and go anytime. You do not need to present for the whole class.
  • No cell phones and no photos in the room.
  • Infant Developmental Movement Educators (IDMEs) will be moving around the room to be with different age groups and areas of the room.
  • Feel free to listen in on what the IDMEs are sharing with other caregivers – and ask questions!
  • The IDMEs have expertise in developmental movement from birth to walking for the typical developmental spectrum. We may have opinions on nutrition, medical conditions, etc. but as IDMEs we aren’t trained in these areas.
  • Stay with or aware of your infant. The room is often full, and IDMEs don’t take responsibility for tracking every baby in the room.
  • Feel free to nurse, feed and/or change your baby in the room.
  • We encourage parents and caregivers to get down on the floor with the babies, so we suggest you wear clothes comfortable for moving around.
  • We suggest (but do not require) that you change your baby from diapers into cloth underwear, which allows for more movement in the pelvis, hips and legs. We provide the underwear, and are fully prepared to clean up lots of pee (and launder the tiny undies each week). There’s a chance the baby’s clothes (or yours) will get peed on, so a spare set of clothing could be a good idea.
  • Babies might respond to their experiences here by crying, sleeping, eating, peeing and pooping more than usual later in the day, or over the next few days.
  • We encourage you to come back as regularly and as often as you like. Please email us at each week when you are planning to come.
  • Spread the word, babies of all ages from newborn to walking are welcome! See below about the first step in registering.
  • If you have not come to Babies! before, the first step in registering for Babies! is to attend a one-hour Be With Your Baby: Intro & Orientation class. In the Intro class, we spend time meeting new caregivers (and their babies) and orienting caregivers to our key principles and handling suggestions. Once you’ve come to the Intro class, you’re welcome to come to Babies as often as you like.
