The first year (or so) of a baby’s life is a hugely important time for learning, exploring, and developing a sense of self and agency in the world. These develop around the baby’s first experiences of touch, movement and handling.

The IDME (Infant Developmental Movement Education) program uses principles from Body-Mind Centering® to train people to observe and facilitate normal movement patterns in babies from birth to walking – and to learn how to help caregivers learn ways to hold and handle infants that supports their safety, comfort and curiosity.

Upon completion of all courses and homework, participants can receive a certificate as an Infant Developmental Movement Educator (IDME) from the School for Body-Mind Centering.

The IDME program has two parts:

Four core developmental movement courses in which students experientially explore key patterns of movement development. These are the same in-depth courses taken by students in our longer Somatic Movement Education (SME) program and Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner program. These four courses may be taken individually in any order with no further commitment to the program. They are:

  • Senses & Perception 1
  • Basic Neurocellular Patterns
  • Primitive Reflexes, Righting Reactions, and Equilibrium Responses
  • Ontogenetic Development

Location: These four courses are offered through Sonder Movement Project in New England and at Babies Project in NYC. Please check the schedule for times and locations here.

Two 10-day courses focusing on the application of the core developmental material to working specifically with infants and their caregivers. Before taking the IDME I and IDME 2 courses, you must take the four core developmental courses.

This IDME program divides the courses into three parts:

  • IDME 1A
  • IDME 1B
  • IDME 2

Location: These three courses are offered through Sonder Movement Project at Babies Project in NYC. Please check the schedule for times and locations here.

PRIce & Registration

While parts of this training are held at Babies Project, registration is through Sonder Movement Project (a Licensed Organization of the School for Body-Mind Centering®, directed by Amy).

PLEASE NOTE: The IDME courses (IDME 1A, 1B, and 2) are currently full with a waiting list.
If you haven’t yet taken the four core developmental courses that are the first part of the program, you can see when they are next scheduled around the world here.
